You open the chart and it reads like another language

Pt w/ colon CA s/p resection, now metastatic recurrence. KRAS mut.
Plan: 1L FOLFOX, palliative intent.
Today: C3D1, oxali 65 mg/m² (prev 85). ANC 1,300.

Every abbreviation is a small reminder of everything you don't know yet. You look one thing up, and it sends you to three more. The guidelines are hundreds of pages. Your coworkers seem to know all of it already. And somewhere in the back of your mind is the question nobody says out loud:

"Am I cut out for this?"

Whether you're moving into oncology from another practice area, stepping in without an oncology residency, or still in school or training, the start usually looks like this:

  • You don't know where to begin, and everything feels equally important
  • You look things up all day, but it doesn't add up to a foundation you can build on
  • You read about a drug, then freeze when an order doesn't look the way you expected
  • You have basic questions you're embarrassed to ask, because everyone around you seems to already know

Feeling overwhelmed is normal. Staying overwhelmed doesn't have to be.

The shift

Experienced oncology pharmacists don't know everything - they use a foundation they've built over time

They've spent time building their baseline knowledge: the language, the workflows, the drug classes, the patterns. On top of that foundation, they've built a process for knowing which questions to ask, what to look for, and where to verify it.

Oncology Confidence helps you start building both. It doesn't try to teach you everything about every cancer. It focuses on the foundation underneath it all.

1

Think like an oncology pharmacist

Inside a lesson

Learn what to look for, not just what words mean

Neoadjuvant, adjuvant, and palliative intent show up in notes every day. Knowing the definitions is a start. Knowing why treatment intent matters, and looking for it first, is how an oncology pharmacist reads a chart.

Lessons work this way: one useful concept, a realistic oncology example, then questions that ask you to apply it, not just repeat it back. When you miss something, the feedback explains why it matters in practice.

Example lesson
Treatment intent
NeoadjuvantTreatment given before the main treatment, often surgery
AdjuvantTreatment given after the main treatment to lower the risk of the cancer coming back
Palliative intentTreatment aimed at controlling the cancer and its symptoms when cure isn't the expected goal
Teaching pearl: treatment intent shapes how the team weighs side effects, dose changes, and goals of care, so it's one of the first things to find when you open a note.
Your journey

Three phases. Eight modules. Learned at your pace.

You move through the curriculum in order, building on what came before. There's no fixed timeline. Your plan adapts to you: if a topic is new, it slows down and gives you more explanation and practice. If you're further along, familiar topics become a quick review so you can move faster.

Phase 1

Stop Feeling Lost

Reduce intimidation and get your footing in your oncology environment.

1

Oncology Mindset & Orientation

Build a sustainable approach to learning oncology, using structured processes, trusted resources, and small steps to reduce overwhelm.

2

Oncology Terminology & Abbreviations

Become more comfortable reading oncology notes, regimen names, and everyday shorthand by understanding foundational oncology language.

3

Oncology Workflow & Order Verification Foundations

Develop a systematic approach to oncology order review: identify key questions, notice missing information, and understand what needs verification.

Phase 2

Build Fluency

Recognize patterns and understand what you're seeing.

4

Treatment Modalities & Drug Classes

Organize oncology therapies into broad treatment categories and drug classes so unfamiliar medications have a place in your thinking framework.

5

Toxicity & Monitoring Patterns

Learn foundational toxicity and monitoring concepts, then practice identifying what to verify without assuming that drugs in the same class carry the same risks.

6

Understanding Oncology Clinical Trials

Understand common trial terminology and study structure so you can follow oncology research discussions and ask useful questions about the evidence.

Phase 3

Supportive Care

Understand how oncology pharmacists help patients tolerate treatment safely.

7

Common Oncology Supportive Care Conditions

Recognize common supportive care conditions, understand why they matter, and identify when concerns need further assessment or escalation.

8

Supportive Care Prevention & Management Principles

Understand prevention-versus-treatment strategies and major supportive care medication categories, connecting them to the complications they address.

How it's made

Powered by AI. Built on KelleyCPharmD's framework.

Oncology Confidence is an AI-powered app, and you should know exactly what that means before you start

What the humans built

  • The eight-module curriculum and the order you learn it in
  • The teaching approach: patterns and reasoning over memorization
  • The rules for what the app teaches, and what it deliberately leaves out
  • A library of resources to help you build your clinical foundation and navigate the app

What the AI does

  • Writes your daily lessons, exercises, and feedback within that framework
  • Builds your plan and adjusts it based on your answers and reflections
  • Powers the Coach you can ask questions any time

The Coach is an AI learning assistant built on KelleyCPharmD's teaching approach, and the lesson content is AI-generated, not hand-written by Kelley. When you interact with the Coach, you are interacting with the AI tool.

Like any AI tool, it can make mistakes. Oncology Confidence is for learning, not patient care. Verify clinical information with current references and your institution's resources, and discuss patient-care decisions with your clinical team.

Is this for you?

Built for the start of your oncology journey

Oncology Confidence is for you if you're…

  • A pharmacist moving into oncology or early in your oncology career
  • Practicing in oncology without extensive oncology or residency training
  • A pharmacy resident or student interested in oncology
  • Feeling intimidated, overwhelmed, or on your own in your oncology learning

What it isn't

  • A clinical decision support tool or a substitute for your institution's protocols
  • A replacement for treatment guidelines or a comprehensive drug reference
  • Disease-specific treatment training or BCOP preparation (that deeper work lives in the ELO Collaborative)

It's your foundation: the structured, low-pressure starting point that makes everything you learn next easier

Created by Kelley Carlstrom

"I built this app to make oncology feel less intimidating for pharmacists like you"

When I first started in oncology pharmacy, I was completely overwhelmed by the complexity, the unfamiliar language, and the sheer volume of information. Even with a solid education and a PGY1 under me, I struggled to find resources that spoke to my level - most were either too advanced, too fragmented, or assumed a baseline knowledge I simply didn't have yet. I wished for an easy way to break things down, help me build confidence, and show me how experienced oncology pharmacists actually think through problems in real life.

Over the years since then, I've worked with hundreds of pharmacists, residents, and students who shared those same feelings of uncertainty and isolation. That's what inspired me to create the ELO Collaborative, a comprehensive learning ecosystem for oncology pharmacists. But I realized there was still a gap: many needed a more approachable entry point before they were ready for advanced clinical reasoning or community discussion.

This app is my answer to that need. I designed it to be a daily companion that makes learning feel manageable, structured, and encouraging. It's not a magic wand that will turn you into an instant expert 😅, but it will help you build the habits, mindset, and foundational fluency that will set you up for long-term success in oncology.

Every lesson, prompt, and exercise in this app is built on a blueprint created by me through my own experiences and the real challenges I've seen new oncology pharmacists face. I want you to feel supported, capable, and never alone as you take your first steps into this field. My hope is that this app helps you move from feeling intimidated to feeling empowered - and that, when you're ready, you'll join me and others in the ELO Collaborative for deeper learning and mentorship.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

How much time does it take each day?

You choose during setup. Plans can start at 5 minutes a day. On days off, you can go deeper with focused review if you have the time. There's no fixed timeline; your plan adapts to your pace.

What will I learn?

The foundations: oncology language and abbreviations, workflow and order verification basics, treatment categories and drug classes, toxicity and monitoring patterns, clinical trial language, and supportive care principles. It doesn't cover disease-specific treatment; that deeper learning lives in the ELO Collaborative.

Do I need any oncology experience?

No. The app starts with orientation and foundational language and builds from there. If you already know some of the material, your plan turns familiar topics into a short review and confidence check.

I'm a pharmacy resident or student. Is this for me?

Yes. Oncology Confidence is built for pharmacists and pharmacy learners. If you're interested in oncology and want a structured foundation before rotations or practice, it's a good fit.

Is the content written by Kelley?

Kelley designed the curriculum, the teaching approach, and the rules the app follows. The daily lessons, exercises, feedback, and Coach responses are generated by AI within that framework, so they aren't written word for word by Kelley.

Am I talking to Kelley when I use the Coach?

No. The Coach is an AI learning assistant built on KelleyCPharmD's teaching approach. It helps you work through concepts and reasoning. It isn't Kelley, and it doesn't make patient-care decisions.

Can I use it to make treatment decisions?

No. Oncology Confidence is an educational app, not a clinical decision support tool or guideline replacement. It teaches you how to approach oncology systematically and where to verify information. Patient-care decisions belong with the treating team and your institution's current resources.

What happens if I miss a few days?

Nothing piles up. When you come back, you pick up where you left off, without a stack of missed lessons waiting for you.

How does billing work?

You answer the setup questions, see your plan, and then subscribe for $19/month, with access right away. To cancel your subscription, or to request a refund within 7 days if it's not the right fit, email support@studio.com.

What devices does it work on?

Oncology Confidence is built as a mobile app for iPhone and Android, and that's where it works best. A web version is available, but the experience is designed for your phone.

What comes after the eight modules?

Once you finish, the app shifts into ongoing review to reinforce what you've learned. When you're ready for disease-specific education, case-based learning, and mentorship, the ELO Collaborative is the natural next step.
